Greg: Okay everyone. How are we doing with our snack? Getting there? I´m so hungry! Vera, what are you doing?
Vera: I´m washing the lettuce, Greg.
Greg: Terrific. That´s important. What about you, Zeca, what are you doing with those tomatoes?
Zeca: I´m slicing them. We need them for the sandwich too.
Greg: That´s cool. And for drinking? I´m thristy too!
Vera: We´re having a banana smoothie. Carlinha is mixing the bananas and the milk.
Greg: Yummy! I love smoothies! I can´t believe it! Look at this one! He´s not working. Hey, Lucas. What are you doing?
Lucas: I´m eating a banana, boss. I love bananas, boss!

Greg: I´m not a big fan of TV, you know…
Jane: Well, I love Brazilian TV, especially the soap operas…
Greg: Really? Well, I think TV is very good for my education. Every time someone turns on the TV I go to another room, pick up a good book and enjoy reading it.
Jane: Oh, come on, Greg! Some of those shows are excellent. The soap operas are really exciting.
Greg: No, thanks, no soap operas for me. The only show I like to watch on TV is Globo Reporter.
Jane: But don´t you like to watch the programs on Canal Futura? They´re excellent.
Greg: Oh, Canal Futura! I Know. They say their shows are top quality. I´ll try and watch one of them someday.

Listen to the CD, read the text and do the activity on page 22:
Jane: Tomorrow we´re having a long day, so get ready. You come to school as normal, and we´re having a class together from seven-thirty to ten. At ten-thirty we´re leaving the school and taking a bus to the cultural center. At the cultural center we are meeting the other group and over there we´re watching the exhibition (in English) on books about Brazil. We are also having lunch there, so bring your sandwiches and drinks. You can buy your lunch there if you want – there´s a snack bar on the site. After lunch we are going to Vidigal to get to know the other teens better. You interviewing them and they are interviewing you. They are also putting on a show for us, but they say this is a surprise, so I don´t know what they have in mind.

Text - CD (faixa 4) - 9º ano - Book (Links)

Listen to the CD, read the text and do the activity on page 20:

Sayumi: Okay. So these are the movie we’ve got: Hair, Saturday Night Fever, Clueless, Grease, and The Breakfast Club. Which one takes place in the 50’s?
Matt: That’s easy. It’s Grease. Can you see the boys wearing tight pants and leather jackets?
Simone: Yeah, and the girls wearing glamorous tops and dresses? That’s definitely the 50’s.
Roxanna: Okay, what about Saturday Night Fever?
Fabiana: That’s easy, too. It’s the 70’s. Travolta in a 3-piece suit, bell-bottom pants. It’s disco time!
Clare: So we’ve got one for the 50’s and one for the 70’s. Which film is from the 80’s? Is it Clueless? I’m clueless!
Zedu: Me too!
Sayumi: No, I think Clueless is from the 90’s. Can you see all those cell phones and no fashion really, with people wearing different types of clothes? That must be the 90’s.
Adão: Yeah, and The Breakfast Club is from the 80’s I think. Loose clothes, checkered shirts, sweatshirts. Comfortable clothes!
Roxanna: Okay. That leaves us with the 60’s. Is Hair from the 60’s?
Clare: Yes, I think so. Hippie movement, unisex clothes: jeans, colorful clothes, long hair. It looks like the 60’s.
Sayumi: So we’re done. Good job, everyone!
